A long, long time ago, when early Christians started celebrating the Paschal Mystery of our Christian faith, legend is told of an ageless and saintly man whose joyful celebration of Easter was loved by all whom he came into contact with. He taught all who would listen, that the resurrection meant eternal life for all the faithful, and that a virtuous life is easy to attain for those who believe.
The belief in a new and eternal life is symbolized by the festive and colorful eggs he carries, while the rabbit reminds us of the command from Genesis, to “be fruitful and multiply”. His colorful and joyful attire reflects the glory of Easter and the hope and joys of each and every Spring season.
Father Easter is known to hide eggs for young children to find, and leave sweet candy treats to believers of all ages.
